My work is about understanding consumer behaviour, how people engage with space, what motivates them, what they do there and how owners and occupiers of retail, offices and resi can drive better engagement. Some of the largest landlords and investors in the UK and Europe are my clients, and I help them create engaging destinations that add value for investors. I believe that when you put the customer at the heart of analysis and understand why people do what they do, you can create an environment that surprises, delights and crucially, engages them. I have a long history in revolutionising the way the industry understands the interaction between customer and location and experience using all forms of data from old school customer surveys through macro data sets such as mobile. I have extensive experience presenting thought leadership at events such as Revo, Shopping Centre Management, Retail Rocks and the ICSC European Outlet Conference. I am also the keynote speaker at many CACI retail conferences, such as Space Redefined, Born Digital and London Uncovered. In addition I regularly contribute to trade and national press on the role of the customer in retail, something that is required with depressing frequency at the moment. Through all the work I do I believe on getting to the heart of the problem, focusing on answering the question and delivering the 'so what? / what next?' Too much analysis today over-complicates the methodology and over-simplifies the deliverable, forgetting that understanding people and their behaviour is the bedrock of retail success.
