About Alex Mcglothlin

Alex Mcglothlin is a Application Security Engineer at OnePay. He possess expertise in information technology, information security, workstations, windows 7, windows xp and 32 more skills. Colleagues describe him as "Alex is a Top Talent in the cybersecurity industry and any company who is lucky enough to have him should hold on tight! I had the pleasure of managing Alex while he was a part of the Application Security Team at FloQast, but there is really no "managing" involved. Alex is the definition of a self-reliant engineer. If he doesn't have an answer off the top of his head (which he often does), then he knows exactly where and how to find it and you can be sure he will know the answer the next time you see him! In addition to working together professionally, Alex has also joined me on several Penetration Testing engagements through Fiverr Pro and we have worked together to find a resolve several vulnerabilities as part of the Synack Red Team. In each of these experiences, Alex was able to make a significant impact on our ability to succeed. He not only understands how offensive security works, but more importantly he understands how security teams work to defend against these attacks. This knowledge allows him to anticipate mistakes that security teams will make and take advantage of them to find issues with significant risk. He also understands how to demonstrate the impact of those vulnerabilities based on the larger goals of the business. This is a skill that *many* security engineers lack. Most importantly, though, Alex understands how to solve problems. Especially complex problems that span across multiple teams and stakeholders. Alex won't just find the vulnerabilities, he will work with the developers to build a process for remediating those vulnerabilities that works for everyone, ultimately helping to build a healthy collaborative relationship between security and the rest of the organization. I've seen this happen repeatedly. When you have Alex as part of your security team, you don't just have a penetration tester or security engineer, you have a highly competent teammate that's ready to jump in, get his hands dirty, and solve whatever problems come his way. His tech skills and soft skills are simply the tools he uses to accomplish those tasks.", "There are security engineers who know how to do the work, and there are those who can both do the work and articulate why it is important, how it affects the broader picture, and what the significance of addressing a specific problem area for the business is. Alex is the latter - I know him as a security engineering leader passionate about incident response, red teaming, and application security, among many other areas. I have seen Alex taking part in Def Con events, writing blog posts, and mentoring others, - all signs of someone who is passionate about his craft, loves learning, and is constantly looking to better their skills and contribute to the community. I have no doubt that Alex will excel at any project or initiative he takes on, be it a service like pentesting, application security, or security leadership. I am excited to follow his journey and hoping we'll get to work together in the future.", and "I've been impressed with the depth and breadth of Alex's security knowledge. He's a very experienced practitioner who is able to leverage his experience in and passion for security to make high quality but pragmatic tradeoffs when it comes to security decisions. I also personally enjoy the energy Alex brings to the conversation and value and respect his feedback and thoughts on security matters. I'd definitely reccomend partnering with Alex if you get the opportunity!"
