ŌGI Bio offers our customers in the microbiology sector a flexible and affordable route into the automation of routine microbial culturing. We do so through a unique modular, retrofittable device that allows customers to fit our system to their process rather than designing new processes to enable automation and high throughput. By allowing our customers to choose the specific functions they require for their processes we provide a flexible base from which to accelerate innovation by increasing their R&D throughput, reducing user error and improving reproducibility.

Founded OGI Bio to develop tools to save researchers time in microbial culturing processes and allow them to focus on the interesting/cool science that they want to work on and that will make the difference to people's lives through innovation.

Single cell imaging of growth and development in bacteria. Automation of routine culturing methods in microbiology.

Successful three month interruption to PDRA work to conduct market research (in the form of face-to-face interviews) for the potential for commercialisation of the devices I have developed as part of the FTMA, low-cost automation of routine microbial culturing. Result of market research was a recommendation from the panel to spin-out a company to meet the needs I identified as part of this market research.

3 months secondment from PDRA work to focus on construction and development of prototype microbioreactor systems for low-cost automation of microbial growth. Designed built and constructed two prototype devices; one for batch culture the other for fed-batch and continuous culturing.

During the final year of my PhD I oversaw workshop based problem classes for one of the required courses for second year Physics Undergraduates introducing Classical Mechanics, Quantum Theory and General Relativity. This involved leading a group of tutors within workshop classes, helping students with problems and marking students work. Additionally, I managed the team of tutors across the entire course and collated markers comments from students scripts into a document which was distributed weekly to the classes.

During my PhD I did extensive, paid tutoring of both Undergraduate and Masters students across a wide range of Physical subjects. This involved group tutoring, laboratory demonstration and marking of students work.

Laboratory Tutor in Undergraduate Physics Laboratories, demonstrating and supervising undergraduate research projects of First, Second and Third year students. Project supervision cover topics including, laser photonics, classical optics, solid state physics, classical mechanics, nuclear radiation, electromagnatism, fundamental constant measurements (speed of light, gravity, and Plancks constant) and digital and analogue electronics. Providing a grounding Physical science research for undergraduate students.Roles included, supervision, demonstration and verbal and written assessment of students projects.

Scottish Universities Physics Alliance (SUPA) Short Term Visit. Funding awarded to work with Prof. Bai Fan. The visit involved two individual projects.1) To image the individual flagella and motors of bacteria using super-resolution, structured illumination imaging (SIM) and spinning disc confocal microscopy. Gained valuable knowledge in protocols necessary for staining and preparing bacterial flagella and in the techniques required for imaging in both SIM and spinning disc confocal microscopy.2) To establish a microfluidic station to manufacture and use mother machine devices I have designed and manufactured in the UK.
