Key member of the Infrastructure and Core Services team working on internal and customer requests, new website features and bug fixes. Upon joining I adapted quickly to learn multiple new languages, including PHP, and new frameworks, including angular, whilst utilising the AWS platform. I have also lead the introduction and implementation of improved agile working practices within the team including “Definition of Ready” for tickets and demonstrated new features and findings from the team in presentations at company meetings.

Working an essential member of the back-end feature team developing micro-services to support Twig Education’s online platforms for North American elementary and middle school consumers in the US. The role involved developing key features including those for managing new and existing subscriptions, archiving and deleting data and translation of the curriculum standards to multiple languages. As such I am experienced in creating microservices written in Typescript and NodeJS including event-based, using RabbitMQ, and rest API-based, using NestJS, and express, which link to the front-end through a GraphQL interface. I also developed and upgraded legacy services written in Python using MySQL.I was involved in all stages of the software development cycle including requirements gathering from stakeholders, project planning, implementation, testing and maintenance, whilst whilst working to tight deadlines throughout the school year. As a more senior member of the team I mentored new members and presented our work at team and company meetings.

Member of the 32 Signals Regiment Pipes and Drums band which, as well as improving my piping skills, pushed me outside my comfort zone and improved my confidence and team working skills.

I worked as one half of the back-end team in an agile environment, heavily involved in discovery and planning sessions, designing database schemas and implementing the back-end code base. I worked with Python using the flask webframework and a MySQL database to store and retrieve job postings, applications and user data. I also updated and improved the existing code base including transferring data from MongoDB to SQL, which included designing SQL database tables and creating import scripts to extract data from existing MongoDB databases. I also worked as the sole backend developer working on the creation of company profiles involving design of the storage of data, creation of API endpoints for customers and linking to current ordering systems. This project involved liasson with front-end developers, product managers and testers to achieve the project goals.

As a member of the Officer Training Corps pipe band, I have played in several competitions, ceremonial events and public functions in Scotland, HorseGuards Parade Square, London and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. I have also taken part in the management of the band, setting tunes and organising band practices.

From the beginning of fourth year, I have supported first year students undertaking laboratory tasks, providing assistance on programming with Python and set assignments.

Successfully obtained an internship at Traveltek where I worked on a project developing a portal allowing travel companies to view statistics about their customers quickly and efficiently. Built a prediction engine to forecast consumer buying patterns to aid marketing strategies for client companies.Worked with Google’s Cloud platform, Google compute engines to host and run the web interface and Google BigQuery to store consumer data. This gave the ability to demonstate the viability of the product for future Traveltek systems.
