Alex’s major litigation and experience includes:• In 2018, defending world-leading renewable energy scientist, Dr Patrick Glynn, against injunctions and IP infringement proceedings concerning his thermal battery patents, in Climate Change Technologies Pty Ltd v Glynn & Ors (Supreme Court of S.A.);• In 2017, winning a multi-million dollar judgment after a two week Supreme Court of Queensland trial against leading U.S. yacht manufacturer, Bertram Yachts, concerning its manufacture and sale of a dangerously defective charter vessel, in Tarangau Game Fishing Charters Pty Ltd v Eagle Yachts Pty Ltd & Anor;• Ran a landmark bankruptcy law test case, Berryman v Zurich Australia Ltd (Supreme Court of W.A.) 2016, which held for the first time that proceeds of TPD insurance policies are protected in bankruptcy, beyond the reach of creditors, and the further test case, Gittins v Field (Federal Court of Australia) which held that proceeds of income protection policies paid due to personal injury are not protected in bankruptcy;• Advising and acting for or against numerous national franchises including winning a Federal Court trial against the ACCC and 27 class action members in a Franchising Code test case - ACCC v Kyloe Pty Ltd & Ors [2007] FCA 1522; • Running a class action in the Federal Court for victims of the Pearls India Ponzi scheme, which Alex commenced with an urgent injunction restraining the sale of the Sheraton Mirage Gold Coast and having its $90 million net proceeds of sale placed into trust for victims and the Indian Government; • Acting for Agripower Australia Ltd in the test case, Agripower Australia v J&D Rigging Pty Ltd & Ors [2013] QSC 164, including identifying and advising on a novel jurisdictional question under security of payments legislation which was tested and won at first instance before being overturned on appeal; • Advising a large chemicals manufacturer on product liability claims after a major contamination and product recall event.

Alex established Shine Lawyers' national insolvency practice leveraging its existing call centre network into one of Australia's leading B2C insolvency practices within the first 12 months. Alex also acted as a Partner in Shine's commercial class actions division. In this role, he began a class action in the Federal Court on behalf of 46,000 victims of the Pearls India Ponzi scheme, the world's second largest ever Ponzi scheme, which he commenced with an urgent injunction successfully restraining the $140 million sale of the Sheraton Mirage Gold Coast. The proceedings were the first to trace Pearls ponzi funds to an overseas jurisdiction, and they ultimately returned more than $90 million to an Indian Government fund established to recompense victims. While at Shine, he advised on and won a landmark bankruptcy test case, Berryman v Zurich Australia Ltd [2016] WASC 196, which held for the first time in Australia that the Bankruptcy Act 1966 protects the proceeds of TPD insurance policies exclusively for bankrupts, beyond the reach of creditors.
