About Alex Witkowski

What do you do when you start to have doubts about the career you planned your life around? When I left college, I was certain I would teach high school for the long haul. I wanted to do more than help students get better at English; I wanted to show them that the subject they may have felt tortured by in the past actually shapes the way we understand and express our thoughts about the world. My goal was to create an environment that wasn't defined by essays and exams, but rather by the compassion and understanding to explore identity. Maybe I was a little idealistic, but at the time I didn't know it. But the challenges within the education system made the reality far different than the expectations. After six incredible years working with students, I left to experience new things. I was fortunate to get an opportunity to apply my passion for people, community, and communication to the nonprofit sphere when Idealist hired me to serve as a Community and Social Media Manager. There I strategized and implemented new ways for the company to deepen their relationship with customers--job-seekers and job-posters alike. I balanced as many hats as I was allowed to wear in the building without it becoming a fire hazard.A few years later I'm in a new state on a new coast with a new company. I've returned to my education roots to work at Course Hero, first as a Student Community Manager and most recently as an Educator Community Manager. Here I work not just to spread Course Hero's vision for open source education, but to understand the needs and views of our community members and find new ways to enrich their lives. I love to present, teach, and communicate with empathy and energy. I am passionate about life--all its obstacles and offerings, and how I can grow as a person because of them. I give my full self to everything I do and want to change every environment I am a part of for the better. You can reach me at (908) 930-6826 or AlexNWitkowski@gmail.com.
