Alex was honored with the National Mentoring Summit Scholarship from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. In this role, he passionately advocated for the endorsement and support of grants worth a total of $130 million by United States Senators and Representatives. These grants were aimed at establishing evidence-based mechanisms to dismantle systemic injustices and to invest in equitable mentoring and educational systems for low-income and underrepresented students throughout the nation. His efforts culminated in an internship with the White House, Office of National Drug Control Policy, Office of Public Health to address the addiction and overdose epidemic in the United States. He now holds leadership positions as President of Ohio State's Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science chapter and volunteers at The Ohio State University College of Medicine's La Clinica Latina.
