Teaching and student engagement roles within the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

While studying at UC and in the years following I have undertaken various teaching and mentoring roles. I am responsible for developing teaching material, presenting lectures, designing assessments and grading student work. I have also mentored groups of final-year undergraduate engineering students completing industry sponsored projects.

Technix Industries is a small NZ innovations company. I was the sole researcher investigating a novel system to provide stabilisation using gyroscopic torque. The role involved the conceptualisation, design, build and operation of prototype systems and testing rigs, as well as, implementation of data acquisition systems and analysis of testing results. I produced costing and feasibility studies from testing results to inform market potential decisions.The main aspects of the role were:-Literature review and patent search-Concept developement of novel mechanical system-Design for assembly with use of rapid prototyping-Design of experiments and data acquisition systems-Post-experiement analysis of results

E & C Jones Engineering is a small fully equipped mechanical workshop. As a workshop hand, I operated a range of workshop machinery and equipment to assist in fabricating bespoke engineering components and helped design production processes for small quantity batch runs.

Windflow Technology Ltd are a wind turbine manufacturing company in Christchurch, NZ. I completed a four month summer internship. I completed the design for a purpose built tensile testing rig for use in R&D within the company. This project involved research into existing options, mechanical design of the rig, scoping the hydraulic and data acquisition systems, design documentation and cost estimation.
