I found the need to build trusted sources of information and included people networking and the use of forums to find best practices and the correct technical information quickly. This meant I could spend more time working on the most appropriate solution. -

The duties included procurement of services, equipment & software, and liaising with third party suppliers, and phone system maintenance. For new purchases I was required to present a proposal and justify them to my director for approval. My routine tasks were installing patches, user administration and file permissions, re-image and configuring the various operating systems, installing new software and troubleshooting network and desktop issues. I documented the network and its infrastructure, and implemented a disaster recovery plan for key computers and tested with identical hardware and software so it was ready to use in an emergency. This was important work due to the requirements from our customers. I also supported an ERP solution produced by Sanderson’s PLC which runs on a PICK multi-value database.Achievements: Successfully managing the IT department autonomously. I also researched and implemented new technologies and maximised the use of the existing technologies to reduce cost, increase security and make the system management more efficient.Environment: The network consisted of 4 server operating systems including Windows 2003 server, Windows NT 4, a Linux server (NetPilot) for email and proxy service, and over 50 desktop operating systems running Windows 98, NT4, XP and Vista, Windows 7. The user base was over 40 office staff and 150 factory workers. -

I started working for MAM Software as a support analyst, answering the phone and logging the details in a helpdesk system. I was also responsible for first pass resolution, on the software and the infrastructure, hardware and operating systems, and general queries on how the product works.After a short time I was promoted to second level support. The tasks involved with this new role were documenting software problems (bugs), and suggesting fixes to the programmers. I furthermore provided workarounds to ensure that customers could continue to work and remote assistance (RDP and VNC). In addition to the responsibilities of the existing customers I was also responsible for implementing/maintaining WAN links within the large multi-location companies. I trained users and staff on software features and regularly supervised colleagues from start to finish on problems. I was part of a team involved in improving the testing process making it repeatable and documenting it as we went along. The sales department often passed calls through for the more technical of sales and I often cross sold the different MAM packages depending on the customer’s requirements.Achievements: I was asked to become the first point of contact for Andrew Page Ltd who had over 200 customers using Autowork for their own propriety Internet based purchase order/price file download facility. This was an important contract with the potential for many new sales with many problems to overcome. The role involved organizing with MAM Software sales/engineers for new on-site installation and troubleshooting problems in liaison with Andrew Page.Environment: The System consisted of a Microsoft Windows Graphical User Interface and a Windows Server, which keeps a copy of all the databases files. The user base for the software was over 2,000 for the workshop software. -
