Role: Worked with team to generate NAVSEA Directed Energy Deposition [DED (Laser-wire Additive Manufacturing and Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM)] process qualifications for two maritime alloys - Designed an automated control system to limit the maximum inter-pass deposition temperature of a 6 DoF ABB Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) cell using feedback from a microprocessor/thermal camera system. Used generative design to optimize thermal camera mounting bracket for anticipated loading configuration - Wrote Python algorithms to: (a) automate iteratively pulling Fronius Cold Metal Transfer additive parameter data from proprietary web interface and (b) Translate PrusaSlicer generated GCode format to Ingersoll Composite Front End format - Reverse engineered and planned reconstruction of a shattered Haas Sl-30 big bore lathe gearbox using a combination of conventional manufacturing methods (water jetting, CNC milling) and WAAM DED - Designed and planned construction of liquid cooled WAAM base plate for optimized heat transfer while maintaining strength requirements - Ground and polished WAAM produced maritime alloys and used Sensofar S neox 3D optical profiler to correlate sample’s microstructure with their mechanical and chemical properties - Interfaced with Ingersoll MasterPrint Continuous Fiber 3D printer and integrated Siemens 840D controller to produce continuous fiber reinforced PEEK mechanical test specimens
