Alex Lau is a senior at El Camino High School where he currently has a 4.28 weighted GPA and a 3.9 unweighted GPA. In testament to his avid curiosity, his accomplishments and interests stretch beyond the classroom as he engrosses himself in a wide variety of activities.Consistent and adventurous, Alex has shown commitment in his eight years of playing the clarinet and his 100+ hours of volunteer service for the South San Francisco Public Library, while subsequently playing six different sports across the span of three years. He’s also sought additional forms of intellectual enrichment outside of his high school. Most recently, he was one of 28 students selected nationally to participate in Stanford University’s Reischauer Scholars Program, an intensive study of Japan and the US-Japan relationship. Additionally, he was one of 15 high schoolers hand-picked to serve on the City of South San Francisco’s Youth Commission where he works in conjunction with the City Council to enact change in the community, including better engaging local youth in Bay Area politics.Alex keeps himself up to date with world news in considering future careers in international relations and global business. He reports on the same through his Instagram account (@impatient.news) where he aims to write unbiased and straight-forward briefings of complex news events in hopes of educating a wider audience on world relations. His goal of nurturing a deeper cross-cultural understanding on a local, national, and international level remains steadfast as he begins to look at internships and colleges ahead of his anticipated Fall 2025 admission.
