Applications Technical Service Manager

Westward House, Paisley

In my current position I am responsible for ensuring the availability and performance of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde largest and most complex systems clinical systems. This involves managing a technical team which contains individuals who have expertise in Microsoft SQL, Cache, Ensemble, Microsoft IIS, windows, AIX operating systems and high availability technologies such as Symantec storage foundation clustering. I also have to manage 3rd party suppliers to ensure they meet their contractual obligations and provide the underpinning service we require.I also manage a team of technical project managers who deliver a programme of works to improve IT services, manage large scale upgrades and implement customer facing solutions such as Imprivata Onesign.

Health Information And Technology Service Delivery Manager

Whilst working as a Service Delivery Manager within HI&T for the Diagnostics, Pharmacy and Oral Health Directorates my main responsibilities were in maintaining a service for the Directorates I worked with and developing strategy, identifying opportunities and implementing projects and other pieces of work. To do this I managed a mix of staff ranging from support staff to project staff. This required that I ensure that the work produced conforms to agreed documentation standards and adheres to local, regional and national policies and strategies to aide in the implementation and support of new acute IT services. It also required that I managed multiple project work packages and maintained a broad knowledge of NHSGG&C applications and infrastructure so that I could inform the staff who worked for me of the wider HI&T portfolio. I also maintained a good working relationship with HI&T staff across all disciplines to ensure I had the most up to date information.During the 4 years I worked as a Service Delivery Manager I was responsible for the IT services supporting the migration of Laboratory services into the New SGH Laboratory Building and to the New Lister Building at the GRI Campus. As of June of 2013 a major additional part of this role was as programme manager for the Laboratory Information Management Systems Consolidation and General Practitioners order communications programme. This programme helped delivery many benefits to NHSGG&C the following are some of the major benefits•Reducing paper and improving the electronic patient record•Improving data quality •Increasing access to results•Reducing time taken to treat patients•Reducing supplier and contract costs•Reducing support issues and improving system performanceThe programme had an overall budget of £1.3 million over 2 financial years. The programme was delivered on time and to budget whilst ensuring all the benefits specified in the business case were achieved.

Sep 2010 - May 2014

Senior Infrastructure Development Consultant

This role was focused on delivering infrastructure projects to support the implementation of IT services and applications within NHSGG&C acute services. The team I lead delivered most aspects of any new acute system which includes application configuration, interface configuration as well as input into system functionality. This required that I keep a broad range of technical knowledge as well as a good understanding of acute services and the ability to lead and manage members of my team. Key to the success of this was having a good working relationship with all HI&T colleagues particularly the HI&T acute account manager and acute service delivery managers. As a team lead I am a line manager for staff who are technical leads for a variety of projects. This requires that I ensure that the work produced conforms to agreed documentation standards and adheres to local, regional and national policies and strategies to aide in the implementation and support of new acute IT services. It also requires that I manage multiple infrastructure project work packages and maintain a broad knowledge of NHSGG&C applications and infrastructure to advise members of my team and individual project managers. A major part of this role required that I scoped and identified appropriate resources to deliver new projects and present complex designs in a format that is easily accessible to all levels of staff both within and external to HI&T. To produce the design required a close understanding of business process and analysis of how technology can support the business. This was also demonstrated when participating in both developing tenders for new IT systems as well as participating in scoring suppliers submissions. All of the aspects of this role required that I establish and built relationships with HI&T colleagues as well as customers within NHSGG&C.
