I lead WPT Global, a fully-remote B2C online poker, casino and sports betting startup. Since joining as employee #7, I've grown the business from zero to the second-largest online poker room in the world, with revenues exceeding nine figures.Much of my time has been spent building a dream team of high-performing people, and we now have over 100 team members around the world. I am responsible for the entire of the online real money gaming business, currently operating in over 100 countries including our first regulated market, Mexico. I work closely with our software provider, with our internal and external teams on marketing and operations, and with our Managing Director to ensure that we grow the business in a way that epitomises our lofty ambitions, while remaining sustainable.

As General Manager of WPT Global, I led the strategic direction and operational oversight of the business, ensuring sustainable growth and competitive positioning within the online poker market. My role involved driving revenue growth, overseeing all departments, and optimising our market strategies to meet both short and long-term objectives. By fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture, I empowered teams across departments to innovate and excel, aligning our goals with the broader vision of the World Poker Tour.

On the Button is my management consultancy company which I founded in 2022 after a number of successful consultancy engagements in the online gaming sector. My clients include WPT Global, the second-largest online poker site in the world, as well as companies that support remote workers throughout the globe.

ParagonEX builds software for trading on the financial markets (including stocks, commodities, currencies and crypto). As CTO I was responsible for the R&D, IT and Product teams (a multi-million dollar annual budget and approximately 80 people in three offices globally). I was also an Executive Director of the company, bringing constructive challenge and independent thinking to the board. In my time with the group I:- Implemented improved Information Security controls and procedures, following the ISO 27001 standard. Raised awareness of cybersecurity, resulting in an over 10x decrease in simulated security incidents.- Overhauled the business' approach to product development and design, raising standards, implementing new procedures and improving collaboration between the product and R&D teams.- Improved the way in which our roadmap was prioritised and communicated to stakeholders including the board of directors- Modernised our trading platform (both mobile and desktop), with a particular focus on improving the onboarding of new customers and the overall user experience.

I had end-to-end responsibility for the division including its full P&L. Microgaming is a software company that supplies software and managed services to hundreds of eGaming businesses worldwide and is considered one of the leading firms in the industry.I led a multidisciplinary team of over 130 people in five countries, most of whom were in the software development function. I oversaw product design (acting as Product Owner), prioritised the backlog and roadmap, and led the implementation of a number of process improvements.I was responsible for formulating a long-term strategy for the division with the aim of maximising business value. I oversaw product marketing, network operations, and game integrity for the division. In my role I worked closely with the CEO, COO and CCO as well as Microgaming's other directors and stakeholders.I had oversight of revenues, costs and the division's P&L, as well as progress against the strategy and defined KPIs.I also acted as a public speaker and public relations representative of the company on poker-related matters.

I led the team of software developers who engineered the poker and bingo products at Microgaming, as well as project management, network operations, Game Integrity, and market insights (business intelligence and analytics).Increased productivity and efficiency, as well as customer satisfaction, in a number of ways, including:- Transitioning the development team from a loosely-implemented form of SCRUM to LeSS (Large Scale Scrum), and in some cases Kanban- Transitioning from siloed client and server teams to fully cross-functional teams- Opening new development functions in remote, semi-outsourced offices- Overhauling the way that the backlog was prioritised and communicated to customers- Dramatically improved customer communication by adapting existing ceremonies such as the end of sprint demo

As Head of Poker I was responsible for the strategic management of Microgaming's poker product, and led a diverse team of people in multiple offices worldwide. While I was in the role, together with my colleagues we achieved a number of important milestones, including:- Returning Microgaming's poker product to long-term growth (in both revenue and player numbers). When I became Head of Poker, Microgaming's .com poker network MPN was in 17th place on the PokerScout rankings. Upon leaving the role we were in 5th place and had become the world's largest B2B poker network.- Taking a number of important new customers live with Microgaming's poker product, including Adjarabet and PKR using our patented Babelfish technology.- Establishing the MPN Poker Tour, now a popular series of poker events around the world, with 6-figure guarantees at every stop.- Completely repositioning the MPN, through refreshed branding and tone of voice, and by establishing a social media presence which now reaches thousands of people daily.- Establishing a new team to manage Game Integrity (collusion and other cheating), and working closely with the manager of that team to improve the integrity of the poker networks.- Designing innovative new products such as Fish Party SNGs, a unique version of the Jackpot SNG concept, with a progressive jackpot and built-in casino cross-sell features.

After joining Microgaming as a consultant for 6 months, I was offered a full time role in which I led a project to improve Game Integrity on the poker networks, and managed day to day operational issues such as tournament schedules, game offerings and promotions.

Provided software design consultancy services to the eGaming and Social Gaming sectors.My clients included a large sports media rights holder with interests in on-demand video streaming, a social gaming company building web applications for distribution via Facebook, and a poker company looking for user experience design and user acceptance testing services.My final project was at Microgaming, where I joined to work on a new Game Integrity system for poker.

I was responsible for the design of the poker product. I led a number of projects through the Scrum lifecycle, from initial concept through to final product.I managed a team of Business Analysts who were responsible for writing the design specifications for new features and products, and communicating our business requirements to the development team.During my time at Full Tilt, the business unfortunately experienced financial difficulties and was forced to close to the public. I was then involved in planning for the relaunch of the business, which included working closely with several potential investors such as Groupe Bernard Tapie, helping to create a business plan, and the design of several new features to help ensure that the value of the company's assets was preserved and the relaunch was a success.

In my role as Poker Room Analyst, I had two key functions:- Managing the PokerStars.it site aimed at the Italian market. I was responsible for managing the tournament schedule, developing promotions in conjunction with the regional marketing teams, and general management of the site. In less than a year, PokerStars.it went from being a newcomer to the market to the largest independent operator in Italy.- I acted as a Business Analyst, designing new software features for the PokerStars product. This included some highly complex projects, such as support for Multi-Currency accounts and games, and time zone support which touched all aspects of the system, front and back-end. My experience as both a poker player and software developer gave me the ability to empathise with both the end user and the people engineering the software, and allowed me to make good compromises between quality and speed to market.In my time in this role, I lent my skills to many other areas of the business, including Game Security (in particular, the prevention of collusion and bot usage), Content (writing and reviewing copy for the PokerStars web estate) and Poker Room Management (acting as an escalation point for poker issues, developing policies, and performing other general management tasks).

Handled customer support queries and investigated cases of collusion and other unethical play. Later, joined the Game Integrity team and worked to detect prohibited software.

I've written extensively about poker strategy and business issues for the poker media since 2004.
