Alex Shibutani is a two-time Olympic medalist, author, producer, speaker, photographer, model, consultant, and Sports Envoy. He and his sister, Maia, made history when they became the first figure skaters of Asian descent (and first non-white team) to win medals in Ice Dance at the Olympic Winter Games. The duo, known as the “ShibSibs”, are also three-time World medalists, five-time U.S. Champions, and two-time members of the U.S. Olympic Team. They were inducted into the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame in January, 2023 (their first year of eligibility). Maia and Alex were named Sports Envoys for the U.S. State Department in 2017. They are also Athlete Ambassadors for Right To Play. In 2020, they joined Team USA’s Council on Racial and Social Justice as Ambassadors and in 2021, Alex was named to the LA28 Athletes’ Commission. As a representative and advocate for the API community, Alex and Maia have been invited to the White House, are recipients of the Asia Society Game Changer Award, and are Gold House A100 honorees. Their partnership on the ice has extended off the ice. The siblings made their debut as authors in 2020 with the release of their middle grade series, “Kudo Kids.” Their next literary project with Penguin Random House will be a nonfiction picture book, “Amazing: Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders Who Inspire Us All” - the planned release is April 18, 2023. Maia and Alex are also actively developing projects for television and film. As speakers, they have shared their story with audiences at Google, P&G, and the BUILD Series as well as at educational institutions including Harvard Business School, University of Southern California, and the University of Michigan. Their speaking abilities also extend to hosting events for the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee and the U.S. - Japan Council. On the partnerships side, Maia and Alex have extensive experience working and collaborating with a wide variety of brands including, Ralph Lauren, Coca-Cola, Hershey’s, Intel, Leica, Smucker’s, and Tumi. Their creative and technical sensibilities are also in demand as consultants for various tech and social media companies who rely on their experience as storytellers, curators, and role models with a global audience.
