Lead operations of the Yellowstone Ranger District of Montana's Custer Gallatin National Forest, based out of Livingston Ranger Station & Big Timber Work Center. District located in Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Approximately one million acres.Includes Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness; much of the Crazy Mountain Range; and the high country flanking the Boulder, Paradise, and Shields Valleys. District also holds portion of the Hyalite Porcupine Buffalo Horn Wilderness Study Area (WSA). District covers Park, Sweetgrass, and Meagher counties. The Yellowstone Ranger District is one of the few remaining National Forest districts to use and maintain a packstring of horses and mules to accomplish work in the rugged and remote country that comprises this public lands unit. The lands comprising the Yellowstone district are ecologically-adapted to periodic wildfire of various scales and intensities. Hosted Type I/Complex incident management teams as AA in 2012 Pine Creek Fire and the 2021 American Fork Fire/woods Creek Complex; as well as Type II incident management teams in the 2013 Miner-Paradise Complex and the 2022 Yellowstone watershed flood response. Among resource challenges is the perpetual threat to Americans' access to their public lands and wildlife, by private individuals and entities seeking defacto and/or dejure privatization of publicly held land, resources, and amenities. The National Collaboration Cadre is a dedicated group of Forest Service professionals and community leaders that combines a broad range of experience in public collaboration with the latest research to offer assistance to national forests and grasslands around the country. Team has recently conducted collaborative planning sessions on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (R9), Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (Region 5) and NEPA collaboration training in Region 4.
