Making car dealers' lives better one FRIKINrefresh at a time.

Ceo & Co-FounderFrikintech Feb 2018 - PresentWilliston, Vt, UsCar dealerships are fascinating places to observe the best and worst of human nature. It is one of the few environments where every human emotion is seen. If we weren't emotional about our cars, we'd all be driving Hyundai Accents (a reliable and excellent car... and the 1st car I ever sold). Shoppers are excited and upset all at the same hour, and salespeople do their best to keep up. It is a perpetual emotional roller-coaster. Some people don’t like it, but it feels like home. FRIKINtech exists to ease the ugly emotional side of the car business; to smooth the friction in the relationship between dealers and customers. We believe in our mission so vehemently; we put it in our name: FRIKTIONLESS technologies, or for short, FRIKINtech. Our deep love for car dealers drives every decision we make. With FRIKINtech, mundane transactions become engaging and exciting. The hardest part of selling cars is now easy; FRIKTIONLESS. -
PresidentDealerrefresh May 2006 - PresentWilliston, Vt, UsWe are here to entertain, explain, and complain. That's because we are a bunch of crotchety old car salesmen with chips on our shoulders. Moreover, we love the car business; we're sick!DealerRefresh is edgy. If you're politically correct, take a hike. If you're sensitive, find a new planet. The world of the car dealer is hard knocks! If this sounds like your kind of place, come party with us as we explore the truths of the car business. -
Head Of Product Design & Innovation (Dt/Ddc)Cox Automotive Inc. Feb 2014 - Sep 2017Atlanta, Ga, UsThe boring P.C. description: Bringing a dealer's eyes and experiences to Dealer.com, Dealertrack, and Cox Automotive. I worked with technology visionaries to design innovative new products and integrations across the platform. The reality: Admittedly there is some voodoo and black magic along with the occasional blood sacrifice, so some details are on the top secret side. The metaphor: Think of car manufacturers who build concept vehicles for testing/showing/getting buy-in before putting that vehicle through the full manufacturing process. Now replace the cars with software and you're getting a better picture. My pet project was the Dealer.com CRM and later named Dealertrack CRM. Unfortunately, it met its demise at the hands of an acquisition by Cox Automotive, but it was without a doubt the fastest growing CRM the automotive industry had ever met. Dealers loved it and the team had the most fun of our careers making and supporting it. We began coding in late 2010. It was in a few dealers' hands in mid-2012 and fully for sale in 2013. The acquisition that killed it came in 2015, so we never got to mature the product to realize our full vision. It is something that will always burn in me. -
Senior Director Of Product Design (Dealer.Com)Cox Automotive Inc. Jul 2012 - Jan 2014Atlanta, Ga, Us -
Director Of Product Research (Dealer.Com)Cox Automotive Inc. May 2010 - Jun 2012Atlanta, Ga, UsIt was a cover-up! Sure, sure sure, there was a bit of product research in the job, but it was all focused on CRM. We used the title to keep it quiet that Dealer.com was building a CRM system. If I were the Director of CRM the cat would have been out of the bag! Sneaky. -
Director Of E-CommerceCheckered Flag Auto Group Apr 2004 - May 2010I held many different roles at Checkered Flag. Most people know me from my eCommerce days that kicked-off in April of 2004, but it all started in the BMW wash bay in 1989. From there some fixed operations with a small splash of grass mowing. Sales later changed my life! In 1999 I got my tie cut (another way of saying "cherry popped") at the Hyundai, Isuzu, VW store. Paying the rent off of commissions is something I cannot recommend enough to an enterprising individual. Very few life experiences are more fulfilling in hindsight. So yeah, I beat the pavement for about five years before plopping into a chair full time as an eCommerce Director. It was in my final role at Checkered Flag where I got deeply involved with DealerRefresh and Dealer.com.Oh, I should disclose that Checkered Flag is my family's business. That's right, I am a PHD. Although technically I have a GHD. Sorry if that's written in greek for all you non-car-folks. -
Internet Sales Manager (Honda) & Webmaster For The GroupCheckered Flag Auto Group Oct 2001 - Apr 2004One day the General Manager asked how well I could type. He then assumed because I was attending college I could articulate things through a keyboard well. And finally, he asked if I knew what an "Internet Lead" was because he didn't either. He went on to state that Honda was mad at us because we hadn't responded to any "Internet Leads" in over a year. Whoops. So, I got a laptop, AVV Webcontrol, Microsoft Carpoint, and became the Honda Internet Manager.Qualifications for Internet Management used to be: are you young and can you type. Simpler times.Take this for what it is worth: my record month (on a salesperson's payplan) was 53 cars. I got a promotion not long after that. -
Honda SalespersonCheckered Flag Auto Group Jun 2001 - Oct 2001Followed one of my favorite bosses of all time (Win Hunter) when he was promoted from the Hyundai, Isuzu, VW GSM to the General Manager of Honda. -
Hyundai, Isuzu, Vw SalespersonCheckered Flag Auto Group Jun 1999 - Jun 2001Beating the pavement was fun! What wasn't fun was doing it in a full suit/tie in Virginia summers. I highly recommend living off of commission for at least one job in life. It will teach you some ferocity and finesse like no other job can. -
