I am a Journalism student at Youngstown State University with a minor in Communication. I have a basic knowledge of the reporting process with career experience writing in AP style, recording, and writing broadcast scripts. Along with these skills, ethical and accurate reporting will be vital throughout my career. I want to be able to give a voice to those who are often ignored while also telling stories important to the community around me. It is important to be able to talk to people and share their stories. Working in the food service industry for many years, building relationships with customers, and learning how to problem solve, along with progressing a communication minor, has given me the building blocks for my future. Along with news reporting, I also have an interest in anchoring and producing. I do not have experience with either of these, but that does not limit any chance of gaining experience and learning. Working with the Jambar as a news reporter has given me a greater sense of what reporters do and would like to pursue an internship or even part-time work with a local station. As for beyond graduation, I would like to be reporting full-time for a station, whether it be local or in another region. If not reporting, then another job within the newsroom.
