Dr. Alexus Brown Email and Phone Number
As a Linguist with a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Pittsburgh, I am passionate about studying linguistic structure and AAVE usage in Rap music and its social implications. I have presented my research at three international Linguistics conferences and have a book chapter under review for a Critical Anthropology Anthology. I have also received two prestigious fellowships: the K. Leroy Irvis Fellowship and the Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship.In addition to my academic work, I have been applying my sociolinguistics expertise as a Localization Consultant, where I have been aiding in building a voice assistant by performing tasks such as proofreading, annotating, and transcription. I have also led two research projects as a Graduate Student Researcher at the University of Pittsburgh, supervising undergraduate researchers and performing transcription and coding tasks for the Archive of Pittsburgh Language and Speech and the Jamaican Creole Prosody Coding.
