About Alex Woychek, Phd, Mph
Growing up in Georgia, many of my friends weren’t interested in science, but I’ve found my way to a career where I’m surrounded by scientists! Today, my friends and coworkers would describe me as passionate, attentive, and head strong. After my undergraduate studies, I received an MPH where I had the privilege of working on 2 main projects for healthcare access in a rural, southern Georgia community. First, I integrated a behavioral health professional into the primary care setting to improve mental health outcomes of kids and teenagers. This allowed participants to return to the primary care setting to address mental health issues. Second, I joined a program that implemented behavioral change for adults with substance abuse issues in the emergency department and urgent care centers. This research showed that behavioral intervention could improve outcomes for individuals with high-risk substance abuse. Then, I received my PhD in Molecular Biosciences where I studied how cells migrate during skin wound healing. I used a variety of cellular and molecular biology techniques, but my favorite techniques were widefield and confocal microscopy. This research led to 3 publications and 2 journal cover images.During graduate school, I enjoyed discussing new technologies and learning new techniques. The Field Application Scientist role combines science communication and promoting new technologies, so it was a perfect fit for me! I pride myself on being an excellent science communicator, and I’m the go-to person for all things planning: big projects, team meetings, team onboarding, and more! I’m best known for my transparency when organizing and executing ideas and projects. What to expect when working with me:• Prefer direct feedback and clear next steps. Clarity is the easiest way to prevent confusion and duplicating efforts on a project.• Confident but seeks feedback. I have a lot of experience to bring to the table, but I’m always looking for ways to improve both my technical knowledge and soft skills.• Belief that everyone has something to contribute. Everyone has a different life experience, and I see these differences as a way to strengthen a team and bring new ideas into the conversation.• Welcomes a challenge. I enjoy the challenge of working on new projects and having different day-to-day duties. In my spare time, I enjoy lifting heavy things, hiking, salsa dancing, and being a Stephen King constant reader. I’d love to connect with other like-minded individuals who are passionate about women in STEM leadership!
Listed skills include Molecular Biology, Project Management, Interpersonal Communication, Communication, and 23 others.
