About Aleya Stone
WHO I AMI have a deep passion for learning, literature, and leadership (my 3Ls), which is what I have dedicated to my education and career. I strive to instill in others the ability to gain invaluable knowledge through books by providing access and resources to the public and, as a result, increasing educational opportunities across diverse populations. WHAT I DOWhile studying for my master’s degree in library science, I started serving as a reference associate and an acquisitions library assistant. I supported a $1.7M library budget and assisted with creating a library makerspace and reorganizing collections to optimize access and use. As a reference librarian at Tyler Public Library, I managed eight employees to provide technology and information assistance. After moving to Washington State, I started as an acquisitions library technician at Puyallup Public Library. I established new acquisition procedures that I later passed along to a new employee when I was promoted to Librarian I - YA/Adult Services. In that role, I have had the chance to improve my skills and provide more value to my community. WHAT I HAVE ACHIEVED● Managed 46% of the print collection budget and 38% of the OverDrive budget; weeded and developed adult and teen collections and some world language collections.● Revamped the training and procedures using BT Cat and the Horizon ILS for all cataloging as the cataloging specialist.● Established a passive monthly library-wide adventure program that reaches an average of 550 monthly participants. One program in July 2022 had over 1,000 participants.● Maintained partnerships with outside organizations to host programs and events and provide services, including Young Black and Brilliant (YB&B) Book Club for teens and COVID test kits.● Partnered with Pierce County Community Engagement Task Force to provide resources for jobs, education, health, basic needs, and young adult to 256 people at one event.● Managed a variety of volunteers of all ages to do projects across the library.● Established the use of LibraryAware for graphics and newsletters. Served as point of contact and trainer for the platform.● Managed website content, social media content (including TikTok and Instagram), and physical marketing materials.
