Alf has public and private sector experience at senior levels. After graduating in International Politics in Lancaster, joining the Civil Service fast stream he became a District Inspector of Taxes, then becoming Group Tax Director for the Royal Insurance Group and Chairman of the tax committee at ABI, the UK Insurance industry’s trade body.Moving into General Management he became a director of Royal Reinsurance Ltd and its overseas subsidiaries before joining Lloyd's of London as a director of its distressed syndicates’ recovery organization. Moving back to Manchester, he started up a successful Executive Search Company focussed on call and contact centre management. His next challenge was as an executive director for the Equal Opportunities Commission based in Manchester, agreeing to stay on for a short period managing its transition into the Equality and Human Rights Commission. A qualified accountant, currently he is Chair of Storm Skills Training CIC, trustee of a national grant giving charity the Yapp Charitable Trust, trustee and treasurer of The Centre for Investigative Journalism and mentors growing social enterprises under the auspices of UNLtd, a national organisation.
