I have a broad background in commercial law, with particular interests in insolvency restructuring as well as in franchising, licensing/distribution, and cross-border trade. I have over a decade of experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements across a wide range of industry sectors spanning retail, manufacturing, food and beverage, professional services, health care, and technology.Since 2018, I have been a professor at the Faculty of Law at Western University, where I research and teach principally in the areas of commercial law, insolvency and restructuring. I have also taught contract law and trusts. Much of my scholarly work takes a comparative and empirical approach, and I have carried out several studies examining the quantitative outcomes of different types of formal insolvency procedures. My scholarship has been cited by courts at all levels across Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada. I have also given media interviews regarding significant insolvency cases, including to The Globe and Mail, CTV News, CBC Radio One, and Law360, among others.I received my J.D. from Queen's University Faculty of Law, where I won several course prizes and served a 2-year term on the University's governing Board of Trustees. I completed my Ph.D. in corporate insolvency law at UCL in the U.K., supported by a SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship. I was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2012.
