I am the owner of or investor in a number of businesses in the Greater Phoenix Area. We own more than 250 residential and commercial rentals own a number of bars, 10 pawn shops, and have a substantial loan book against secured assets which are primarily real estate.We also provide money so that others can purchase and operate businesses. We loan money primarily against hard assets, but we seem to have done best using our expertise and funds combined with other people's operational skills to get things done.We can do loans of most any size (from $100 at a pawn shop to larger loans directly); however, our practical lending limit for a single loan is about $2,000,000. I do avoid situations where I don't have either collateral or control, but I have made exceptions.We also have a small Hedge Fund (less than $10,000,000 in equity), Cheney Partners, LP, that invests in publicly traded securities. My track record in the public markets is good. The fund is open to accredited investors.I have an AB in Economics from Stanford University, and a MBA from Stanford University.
