Alfred is the Managing Director and founder of M/s Meritus Law LLC. He specialises in commercial litigation, with an emphasis on construction, engineering and business disputes. Alfred has been involved in litigation at all levels of the Singapore courts and arbitration. He has appeared in both the Supreme Court and State Courts for full hearings/ trials and interlocutory applications. Recent cases which he has been involved in include matters involving shareholders' disputes, breach of directors' duties, breach of trusts, issues with construction contracts and defence of Workplace, Safety and Health Act offences. Alfred also sits as an arbitrator under the auspices of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.Alfred graduated from the National University of Singapore with Bachelor of Engineering, Civil (Hons) and Bachelor of Laws (Hons).He was a Ministry of Manpower prosecutor for more than 4 years. Whilst at MOM, Alfred led a team of prosecutors in the enforcement of the Factories Act (now Workplace, Safety and Health Act). He also assisted in the drafting of the Workplace, Safety and Health Act and its subsidiary legislation. Alfred represented the Ministry in the State Courts in the enforcement of various statutes that were administered by the MOM. He also served a stint at the Attorney-General’s Chambers where he prosecuted Penal Code offences.In private practice, Alfred completed his pupillage with a Senior Counsel and commenced his practice in the litigation and dispute resolution department of one of the leading law firms in Singapore.Alfred authored the chapter on contract law in the 4th edition of “You and the Law”.Outside of legal practice, Alfred sits in the Review Board (Children and Young Persons Home) of the Ministry of Social and Family Development.
