A key member in a team of five tasked with scaling a successful suite of real estate applications from a local to national market. Modeled a new, properly normalized database schema incorporating system-wide auditing, authentication, and access control. Developed migration paths to seemlessly transition existing data from unkeyed MySQL objects to PostgreSQL relational tables. Designed a REST/WebSockets API built on FeathersJS to service backend ETL systems, web applications, and native mobile applications. A uniform interface was created by integrating legacy MySQL, legacy web hooks, PostgreSQL, and licensed postal data. Created a back-office web application for copy writers and community curators to administer community data. Reimplemented the existing web site with Vue.js, with server rendering via Nuxt.js. Worked hand in hand with our DevOps engineer to integrate the new stateless systems with infrastructure capable of providing horizontal scaling.

Aided the web storefront team with launching an in-house design system and component library built on Sass and VueJS. Introduced frontend entity models mapped to a RESTful service layer. Laid out patterns and best practices for transitioning away from ad hoc AJAX requests and disconnected pockets of frontend functionality. Participated in new frontend development built on a proper top-down application component tree. Encouraged proper separation of concerns throughout the stack.

Worked as a consultant building responsive single page applications utilizing an open source tech stack. At the conclusion of engagements, deployed, fully documented code — in the form of continuously integrated git repos — was handed off to in-house teams responsible for production support. My responsibilities ranged from laying out new projects to establish best practices to on boarding any developers that could contribute to or take responsibility for a project. Throughout a project’s lifecycle, practices such as unit test writing and code reviews were followed to facilitate the creation of long lived, easily maintainable and extensible applications. I regularly broke down business requirements into technical subtasks and bridged any gaps between specializations such as Design, QA, or DevOps, required for successful implementation. Client projects where I had team/tech lead responsibilities included Sam’s Club Mobile and Levi Strauss. On the Sam’s project I was able to also play an architect role on new features that required integration with third parties and Sam’s native iOS and Android applications.

Worked in the KAPx platform team with the Kaplan Learning Innovation team to create MOOC's backed by the latest research in learning science. Hosted infrastructure such as App Engine (Python), EC2 (Linux, Apache, PHP), and RDS (MySQL) were used to scale live video seminars and self-paced college courses.

Part of a team that builds and supports software for dental benefits management. Primary clients include the state governments of Florida, Texas, and Kentucky. Dental plan specifications are implemented to meet access, quality, and service goals. This is currently accomplished with Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL, but there are back-end services and new development occurring in Lisp.

Worked on the creation of a new online learning platform based on Moodle. The goal was to deliver college courses in a single-page application capable of supporting multi-tiered, nested course structures while providing real time completion feedback. Stabilized established project code and rewrote navigation JavaScript to properly traverse a tree. Provided specs to off shore team responsible for integrating with back-end course content system.

I provided guidance to small and medium sized organizations who wished to establish or grow their online presence.

Implemented system improvements across eSilo’s hosted and on-site (SiloServ) backup solutions. Completed the introduction of a web based filename search function for backup archives. This was an end-to-end implementation on a LAMP stack consisting of an HTML form posting requests to a RESTful interface over a MySQL stored procedure.

Reviewed internal customer service web applications for cross-site scripting (XSS) and cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attack vectors and resolved any problems with the underlying PHP responsible for the vulnerabilities. These applications had been extended with or migrated to Zend Framework. I implemented desktop notifications with the HTML5 Notifications API in the customer service web chat client. This enabled representatives to provide more responsive service and handle more concurrent conversations through improved prompting of customers’ background chat requests and replies.

A W2 contract position through Insight Global. I was a lead web developer on the implementation of Cigna’s new MyBill customer account portal. Specifications and a functional prototype agreed upon between HPS and Cigna were implemented in a common MVC framework developed by HPS for its varied clients. I played a significant role in segmenting the design into reusable MVC triads. This was accomplished with PHP5 manipulating HTML and JavaScript based on calls to DB2 stored procedures and a MySQL configuration store.

Worked directly with the CTO and database architect to arrive at requirements for an application portal that served as a central management console for an enterprise-class data backup and recovery system. This was implemented with Linux, Apache, PostgreSQL, and PHP on the back-end and extensive use of object oriented JavaScript on the client-side. System configurations can scale to complex organizational structures and hardware assets deployed across the globe. When new developers came on board I helped orient them with established toolsets, patterns, and conventions. As my knowledge of the system grew I was able to contribute to architectural decisions as well as write key PostgreSQL functions.

Due to Laird's large size and small IT department, I had the opportunity to fulfill various roles. The success of projects required that I address tasks associated with systems and database administration through systems analysis and development. During my tenure I consolidated a diverse collection of accrued web platforms and technologies by bringing them in line with Laird's strategic IT business partners. The server stack was reduced to IBM i (OS/400), Apache, DB2/MySQL, and PHP (Zend Core/Platform). Most of Laird’s web applications interface with J.D. Edward's (JDE) World ERP system. This allowed us to provide better and more secure access to relevant JDE functionality for Laird's facilities across the U.S. and Canada as well as to customers.

Accepted feature specifications from Marketing and created production web applications. Responsible for managing expectations from internal client departments and requesting resources from support departments. Delivered the necessary ColdFusion, JavaScript, and SQL to bring applications together. Applied design patterns that best fit the goals of easy code maintenance and efficient execution. Aided Quality Assurance in understanding the scope of projects so test plans properly stressed applications.

Part of a small team whose task was to create a cross-platform web application for mandatory filings required from public companies by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). I was responsible for all client-side programming and user interface design. JavaScript was used to maintain a complex user profile, error-checking input by SEC standards and calculating fees derived from SEC formulas.

Main responsibilities consisted of monitoring shared web hosting servers to quickly diagnose any failures and resolve or escalate issues to minimize downtime.
