• Primary staff for the Committee on Public Safety and the Committee on Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials (ESTM): responsible for providing analysis and recommendations on all legislation being reviewed and voted on by the member and committee. • Responsible for legislation authored by the member: research policy areas and analyze different legislative approaches to complex and multi-sited problems; construct briefs on the issue and problem; develop legislative language; host stakeholder meetings; liaise with other member offices and policy committee consultants; coordinate grassroots support at state and district levels; compose talking points for the member when presenting the bills in committee and on the floor; and develop strategies for successful bill passage.• Develop hearings for the Select Committee on Coastal Protection: identify policy areas needing legislative evaluation and discussion including ocean threats, impacts of seawater desalination, offshore oil well stimulation and fracking, marine debris, and coastal access to underserved communities; organize panels with relevant policy experts from executive departments at the State and Federal Government, think-tanks, academics, and non- governmental agencies (NGOs); coordinate legislative hearing logistics including agenda construction, developing briefing packets, and live broadcasts; maintain archives of hearings on Select Committee Website.• Responsible for tracking, analyzing and developing recommendations for all legislation coming to the Assembly Floor for a vote in the following issue areas: public safety, environmental safety and toxic materials, revenue and taxation, k-12 education, higher education, and accountability and administrative review.• Coordinate Spanish media outreach for District 29 and Spanish language Public Service Announcements (PSAs), including maintenance of press contacts and placing PSAs in district media markets.

•Conducted 6-hour, in-depth interviews with families as part of a longitudinal study focusing on largely Spanish-speaking, Mexican-origin families in Woodland and Sacramento. •Largely independent work environment with monthly staff meetings. •Developed strong rapport with families through interpersonal skills while maintaining the highest academic and research standards

•Represented the interests of the Chancellor and other high ranking administrators at campus meetings and public events.•Maintained liaison relationships between students, administrators, and faculty. •Composed memos and summary reports on important and controversial campus issues.
