I felt something was missing!Since I started school, I was always good at my lessons and this, helped me to win bronze medal in Students' Biology Olympiad and later to study my favorite subject in university, medicine. Then I started to realize that something was missing; it was the desire to find something new and discover. To do so I needed to find a rather new path and it was lit upon me at a workshop in a rainy day; and thus I started my path in research:- Learned basic and advanced research skills- Participated in different steps of conducting a research project, study design, data gathering, interviews, data analysis and scientific writing- Learned various lab techniques and worked with lab animals.- Worked with different data sets and databases- Data analysis with SPSS, Stata, R and python for machine learning models- Participated in various clinical studies and conducted studies with different methodologies; qualitative, cohort, cross sectional, case control, randomized trial and different type of review studies.- Was a member of students' research committee for 6 years.As my journey continued, I felt something else was missing as well; as once I was my friends last hope before self-harm, I felt the need and passion to work more on psychiatry and it was the start of my journey in psychiatry:- Conducted multiple studies on psychiatric disorders, treatment interventions and improving public mental health.- Passed one month of psychiatry internship.- Worked as a mental health advocate and worked with national and international organizations such as UN and UNICEF.- Implemented a randomized trial study to reduce psychiatric stigma among medical students for my thesis.At the same time, as I worked as a charity volunteer and as the Iran University Medical Students' Association president, I became more and more interested in public health; especially its integration with psychiatry. During my work on public level:- Worked with International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA)- Implemented various informing and screening campaign throughout the capital city.- Advocated for mental health consultation in universities- Lead Iranian Medical Students' Association for more than a yearI still feel that something is missing; and I will continue my work in at a larger scale to not only help all those who are in need, but to fulfill my desire to improve the mental health of society.
