Hudson Sterling is a natural resources business. In Africa, its focus is the development of small-scale mines and mineral supply chains. It supports and follows OECD & EITI principles. Based in Kisoro, SW Uganda, I manage current and developing interests in the DR Congo and Uganda, where I am embedded in the role of Sustainability Manager for a tungsten mine. Reporting to the board, my role extends to - planning & operations, health & safety, audits and compliance (OECD guidance for minerals from conflict affected areas), incident monitoring & reporting, liaison with smelters, negotiating commercial terms, logistics and CSR projects. At any time I might be monitoring the geo-politics affecting the sector, tracking production, trouble-shooting shipping, dealing with miners' welfare or calibrating an XRF machine to test mineral samples. This is a hands-on role in the field, requiring initiative, adaptability, problem-solving, communications, cultural awareness and resilience.

Kisoro, Western Region, Uganda

KYBFA is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit, FUFA registered football academy for children aged 4-16 years located in Kisoro Town, Uganda. It is one of the most isolated areas in Uganda. Together with my founding partner, I saw the need for children to have access to a safe space to learn new skills and provide a platform to better opportunities. The academy now has well over 100 members. I organise the annual Christmas Tournament, attracting many teams, obtaining sponsorship, and support from the Hon. Sarah Mateke, State Minister of Youth and Children. Our special guest in 2022 was Bobosi Byaruhanga, Uganda Cranes and Austin FC Midfielder. In 2023 we are targeting league participation and securing overseas scholarships.

DJ'd on Rinse FM, Balami Radio, NTS, Redlight Amsterdam and Keakie. In 2020 I exhibited my work Nyamuliro focused on a Ugandan artisan mine.
