The aim of the teaching merit model, which is complementary to the possibility of being promoted to Associate Professor on an educational basis, is to contribute to continuous teaching quality improvement in education.

— The purpose of the Online Information Security Laboratory is to be used for both research and education. The gained research and education benefit from building online information security laboratory is the possibility to collaborate with LTU internal researchers and international research groups to jointly address complex problems in research and education directions. — Conventionally designed information security laboratories are isolated from external infrastructures, and therefore, they become disconnected from any possibility to validate the success of security solutions. The online information security laboratory at LTU covers several information security directions in order to increase the access efficiency, as it can be accessed worldwide, while decreases the expenses (e.g. traveling costs) by avoid building individual and isolated laboratories in separate physical locations. From the research viewpoint, the previous laboratory investment was central to the publication activities of the information security research group. From the education viewpoint, the laboratory serves as a cornerstone for the information security master program by offering laboratory hands-on for different courses.

— The Master Programme in Information Security at Luleå University of Technology has been developed to meet the needs of security managers and security engineers in the running of their security practice. The focus of the program is:“The safeguarding of organizations’ knowledge, information systems, and continuity of its ICT-services”.— The nature and scope of the Information Security have evolved over the past several years. Enterprises are no longer just concerned with IT-security. Risk assessment and policy formulation, along with the definition of the business' specific security requirements, helps identify top priorities and most likely threats, as well as key goals, e.g. policy compliance in order to develop a comprehensive information security practice. — Our emphasis is thus more holistic, and we need to consider all aspects of information protection as central to the information security practice. Security managers and security engineers need to be aware of security issues and to analyze any potential outcomes, and consequences to respond and react to security breaches. To tackle particular security issues, such as intrusion into computer systems and social engineering breaches require knowledge about formal, informal, and technical aspects of the information security practice in any organization. With a master’s degree in Information security, you are equipped to meet security challenges because you have a strategic perspective combined with the capability to design and implement practical security solutions in organizational processes.
