Here I help children become school reception ready, following EYFS statutory framework. I help the children learn to recognise and write their name and numbers to ten, encouraging their fine and gross motor skills, teaching them social and emotional skills such as sharing, turn taking, sitting on the carpet, listening, conversing and understanding, with new and improved vocabulary. We use positive behaviour reinforcement, nurturing and patience, and a mix of adult and child led play, alongside phonics, plan-do–review and group time. I was then asked to additionally provide 1:1 support for a child in year 4 with Autism, needing most help with social and emotional skills, and literal interpretation of the curriculum core subjects In addition I cover teacher absence in years four and five, in my capacity as an HLTA, taking various subject lessons and each week I take a Peer Autism awareness class with children from years four through to six, building awareness in autodiversity and the importance of tolerance among our peers.
