I am already thinking about what I can work on with Ali on next" and "Yesterday I attended a fabulous 3 hour EDI (Equality, Diversion and Inclusion) training session run by Ali Hannon at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel in Leeds. We all need this stuff! Even the people who roll their eyes at the mention of EDI. Even the people who think they know loads about EDI. And everyone inbetween. Because at the end of the day EDI isn't some "woke mumbo jumbo" . It is simply basic human decency in a changing modern world. I don't know what I expected from the session really. Maybe a list of words I could and couldn't say. Perhaps some rules about politically correct behaviour. Well that's not what I got. I went with an open and curious mind and a desire to learn. What I got was a super interesting and interactive session delivered by a trainer with empathy, intelligence and humour. During the session we were invited to become aware of and start to challenge our own subconscious bias, with some great practical examples of how to incorporate this into our everyday lives. Ali is such a good presenter. They don't shy away from any of the difficult topics or questions and the training was delivered with a real passion for the topic. I left the session with lots to think about, lots to talk about. I could write lots about subconscious bias and the human need to belong, how it goes back to being tribal and basic survival. I could write about labels and stereotypes. And it's all relevant. But what set this workshop apart for me was the fact it wasn't just a presentation throwing facts and knowledge at me. It was a real invitation to examine my own little world and change it for the better, for the benefit of myself and others. If you are thinking of running EDI training for your staff or attending EDI training on your own behalf, then I can highly recommend Ali."
