Summary: Teaches biweekly class of 19 students focused on how to integrate arts education into core curriculum subjects for future elementary educators. Duties:-Designs course content with specific warm-ups, exercises, and closure activities that model different ways of art making and different instructional strategies they could mimic or adapt in practica or student teaching experiences. -Provides specific feedback for students on all assignments allowing for students to edit their grades within the class using a philosophy of assessing learning over time. Helped replace textbooks in five different Western courses saving students approximately $270,000 for the 2019-2020 school year alone.Researched open practices and open content in higher education. Created strategy content for faculty and instructors to use adopt open pedagogy into their instruction and classroom experience using academic and peer-reviewed sources.Created the content for Western Washington University's first public website about OER. Created two teaching handbooks for faculty to help transition faculty into using OER in their courses. Created the idea cards for Western's 2018-2019 Teaching showcase to give faculty quick ideas about how to incorporate open educational practices into their own courses.

Used formative assessment to modify content as needed to fit the needs of the students. Used specialized features of this learning platform such as breakout rooms, chat, whiteboards, polls, and video streaming to keep kids having fun and learning lots!

I managed an all-day summer camp for elementary school kids. Running a camp effectively means managing counselors, supervising children, planning and executing daily activities, coordinating with community partners, and managing a lot of snacks (and other supplies). I worked with a team of five high school counselors determining daily schedules and providing guidance of camp plans and child supervision. For each of the nine weeks, I planned all camp activities depending on the weekly theme (for example: all around the world, galaxy far far away) for 11 hours of curriculum per day. I knew my students' strengths and areas they needed assistance in and used this knowledge to be proactive in anticipating what my students struggled with and found modifications for them. About half my time was spent in the general education classroom and half was in the special education classroom.

Many students I worked with were ELL, had IEPs or 504s. Over the course of a semester, one of my students took his grade from an "F" to a "C+." He started saying that algebra is "his most interesting class."

I got people off of wait lists and into permanent housing. To expedite this process much of my time was spent with applicants--making sure wait lists were accurate, helping clients get on wait lists that best suited their household needs, and following-up with clients to help them stay on wait lists. This was a brand new position at the YWCA so a large part of my role was building the position from the ground-up. I developed, implemented and designed equitable policies for the YWCA Centralized Applications system to be used at all 10 YWCA permanent housing properties. I advocated for my applicants by developing policies that work against housing barriers to help get them into permanent housing for efficiently. I wore a lot of hats in this fellowship including communications, development and community outreach. One of the achievements I am most proud of at this organization is passing a school bond with 80% of the vote in a school district that had not passed a bond in 30+ years. My role in this effort included coordinating community meetings, creating print materials to spread around town, getting creative with social media (and writing many posts), registering people to vote (democracy in action!) and talking to A LOT of people about the importance an benefits of a new school for the community.

I founded this service club at Whitman after internship experience with Carnegie Picture Lab as an opportunity to get Whitman students more involved with art education in Walla Walla public schools. I was responsible for coordinating volunteers and developing a successful relationship with a community partner (Camp Fire Walla Walla). I, along with the group of students I recruited, designed weekly lesson plans for students in different areas of art (visual, music, theater). I received the Rabinowitz Grant--awarded to one student per year--for the creation of the club and used the funds received the hire and train a stART intern for two years.

My main task at SOS health services was to redesign their website to make it more user friendly for donors and patients. More than 50% of SOS patients spoke Spanish as their primary language so one of the main features I added was a bi-lingual component to the website (with the help of a translator). In this internship I also managed SOS social media and reengaged followers and community members. I collected/analyzed patient demographics with SPSS software and presented data in graphic format on website to be used in determining what our biggest patient needs were and to use in the annual report. I found that the most common illness that SOS patients experiences was diabetes and one of their barriers with this disease is getting insulin due to cost.

In this internship I designed one of the art projects for CPL to use classrooms for classroom year of 2014 across six elementary schools grades K-5. I aided in classroom workshops, including material prep, lesson plans, and creation of art projects with elementary children and helped execute family-fun nights designed to give kids arts experience outside classroom.
