The Capability Design Authority (CDA) develops and curates the Army’s Capability Management Strategy and provides the secretariat for the Capability Management Group (CMG), the Army’s most senior capability management forum. The team provides governance and assurance of the Army’s capability coherence.• Established the CDA as a new team in response to the review of the Army’s Operating Model;• Developed and implemented new capability governance processes reflecting the new Operating Model;• Comprehensively revised and updated the Capability Management Strategy for the first time since 2018;• Issued new Terms of Reference and reconvened the CMG which had not met since before the COVID 19 pandemic.

Operation RESCRIPT was the name for Defence’s formal support to the COVID19 response. This secondment was also responsible for provision of military support to Other Government Departments through Military Aid to Civil Authorities (MACA) over the winter period with c7000 personnel held at readiness. • Routinely briefed Ministers and attended COBR(O) to advise on military capability; • Managed stakeholders across the Ministry of Defence, other government departments and local authorities to assess, balance and deliver tasks including medical and ambulance driver support to the NHS, drivers for the Department for Transport and short notice military deployments to mitigate risk to life following winter storms.• Deployed c1600 military personnel to support the COVID19 vaccination booster program over Christmas 2021.

Senior planning officer responsible for coordinating the development and subsequent delivery of training on new capabilities to the Corps of Royal Engineers.

The Capability Plans team is responsible for the management of the Army’s financial Equipment Capability Plan of c£30Bn. It leads an annual capability audit to record risk and subsequently develop courses of action for investment (and disinvestment) choices to mitigate these risks.• Led the analysis and developed advice on impact to the equipment plan during the 2020 Integrated Review of Security, Defence and Foreign Policy; • Delivered options and underpinning analysis to meet directed savings of c£2Bn across the Equipment Program for the Army’s senior leadership to consider and agree.

A unique role requiring the understanding of the Army’s c65,000 strong vehicle plan. Central to Army Headquarters planning sprints, providing analysis and advice to ensure that the Army has the right size and shape of fleet, from main battle tanks to generators now and in the future, to deliver its Strategic Objectives and mandated Defence Outputs.• Enabled improved analysis of the Army’s operational commitments through the redesign and comprehensive update of the Army’s 14 x Operational Equipment Tables covering over 200,000 individual items;• Identified “hot spots” where equipment and personnel were over-committed, potentially in multiple locations which enabled more effective balancing of operational commitments.

6 Headquarters and Support Squadron of approximately 140 personnel provides specialist communication, driver, engineer logistics, construction design, earth moving plant, military diving, bridging and reconnaissance capabilities in support of 22 Engineer Regiment, an armoured Close Support Engineer Regiment.• Led the Squadron in barracks, on exercise and on operations in Iraq, ensuring that each individual was physically and technically trained and mentally prepared for their role;• In 8 weeks, trained the Squadron for a 6-month deployment to Iraq to strip and refurbish buildings to UK build standards at a new base location to support wider UK armed forces operations;• Led and managed the program with a c£250k budget, delivering on time without compromising safety or wider operations. Simplified plans to enable local resource procurement, reducing reliance on stretched supply lines.

The single desk lead for all Royal Engineer military bridging equipment. Provision of through life planning and management for multiple equipment types including current in-service equipment and planned future capabilities.• Requirement setting and the successful delivery of a £23M Initial Gate Business Case which has subsequently been translated into a further £150M investment contract.• Planned and gained approval for c£20M investment in equipment, training and infrastructure to reactivate mothballed bridging equipment. This work subsequently led to the establishment of a multinational engineer battalion alongside the German Bundeswehr (Army) agreed by the respective Secretary of States for Defence.
