Serves the public and provides languages services in Spanish and Arabic to defendants for case management, walk-in clinics and community meetings. Assists litigants in understanding forms used for filing pleadings; addresses questions or concerns about Housing Court. Supervises 100+ cases through office visits, field visits and telephone appointments, to ensure defendants’ compliance with court orders; assists 1,000+ litigants per year. Prepares and presents pre-sentence reports and recommendations at hearings.Serves as Bailiff for the Selective Intervention Program docket. Supervises and manages first-time offenders placed in the Selective Intervention Program; assists in helping each to develop a compliance schedule to complete all repairs and reach the outcome of having cases(s) dismissed by the Court. Trained as a Conflict Resolution Housing Court Mediator; facilitates mediation agreements in cases of landlord and tenant disputes. Served as mediator for clients of lower socioeconomic backgrounds by establishing and maintaining positive relationships with Employment and Family Services. Worked with diverse populations, including refugees Hispanic and other ethnic groups.
Conducted interviews with clients to assess barriers to employment, and to complete Individual Service Schedule. Referred clients to other WSEM programs and outside agencies for supportive services.
Served as an interpreter in Arabic/Spanish, English and Spanish/English. Taught basic Spanish language to colleagues.
