About Ali Abkar
Dr Ali Abkar has a PhD in remote sensing from the University of Twente (Enschede, the Netherlands) in 1999 and has 17 plus years of working and teaching experience internationally at a number of universities. These include the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences (Faculty of Communication and Environment) in Germany, Faculty of Geomatics Engineering of K.N. Toosi University of Technology (KNTU) and Tehran University in Iran, University of Twente (Faculty of Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation (ITC)) and Lund University (Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Sciences) in Sweden.Dr Abkar has extensive experience in teaching and supervising international MSc and PhD students ((co) supervised 10 PhD candidates and (co) supervised 50 MSc students). He has practical experience in developing courses and educational materials including policies, structures and contents, evaluation of the joint MSc programs and improving course components, giving education and training in tailor-made courses, and joint education programs. Dr Abkar has also extensive experience in the development of the international joint educational programme in higher education, capacity building projects, as well as receiving EU grants. He has been the Program Director for Joint MSc program in Geoinformatics (between ITC and KNTU) and has previously coordinated similar joint MSc programs in three specializations (Geoinformatics, Watershed and Environmental Management, and Rangeland and Agricultural Management). He has also been the ITC coordinator for Erasmus Key Action 2 for Iran, Iraq, Yemen (2007-2008), regional coordinator (2009-2010) and the Iranian coordinator (2011-2015).Dr Abkar is an expert in Geo-information with an interest in Remote Sensing for environmental engineering.
