Asparagus is an award-winning magazine dedicated to telling the large and small stories of how we can live sustainably, from an environmental, social, and cultural perspective. As Deputy Editor, I help solicit submissions, edit stories, and occasionally write articles.

I write about immigration, global development, human rights and sustainability. My work has been published by various media outlets, including the New York Times, the Guardian, Reuters, the Thomson Reuters Foundation, Ozy, the National Post, the Financial Post and VICE. The Discourse is an award-winning media startup focused on community-driven investigative journalism. As the Sustainable Development Reporter, I developed an editorial strategy for The Discourse’s coverage of sustainability in Canada, wrote a biweekly e-newsletter on the topic and produced relevant news coverage, including an investigation that exposed gaps in Canada’s policies on plastic pollution. I also co-authored a toolkit to improve media coverage of the refugee crisis that is being used by groups working with refugees, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The Global Urbanist is an award-winning online magazine about urban development. I worked with the editorial team to develop long-term plans and expand our pool of contributors, in addition to editing articles on urban issues by experts to make them accessible to a general audience.

As the 2016 Michelle Lang Fellow, I worked as a news reporter for the National Post and the Calgary Herald, and spent a year producing an investigative project on Canadian immigration policy. The resulting six-part series was published across Canada and revealed a growing population of undocumented immigrants; businesses country-wide, in both urban and rural areas, struggling to access desperately needed labour; and poor integration of immigrants into the job market - all of which results in billions of dollars in losses to the economy each year. Michelle Lang, an award-winning Calgary Herald journalist, lost her life in December 2009 while on assignment for Canwest News Service in Kandahar, Afghanistan. She was the first Canadian journalist killed while reporting on this war.

I won a fellowship from the American India Foundation to manage, assist with and write about research related to urban issues for the Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy, a leading Indian NGO focused on improving governance and the quality of life in India's cities.

I was awarded a Global Journalism Fellowship by the Munk School of Global Affairs, where I focused on reporting on international development and human rights for the National Post and the Thomson Reuters Foundation, and had access to training and mentorship from some of Canada's top journalists.

The PCC was an independent self-regulatory body which dealt with complaints about the editorial content of British newspapers and magazines until it was replaced by the Independent Press Standards Organisation in September 2014. I drafted rulings on complaints related to accuracy, privacy and other editorial issues, and negotiated resolutions to complaints by mediating between editors and reporters of major British newspapers, and complainants.
