About Alia S. Graham

Serving as the Vice President of People and Culture/Human Resources for the Reader Institute for Community Journalism, publisher of the Chicago Reader. The Chicago Reader is an alternative nonprofit newsroom and media outlet Within the first year of employment at the Reader, she was promoted from Director to Vice President. Alia has transformed the organization, by single-handedly creating and structuring the hiring process, performance reviews, grievance processes, mediation, formal onboarding, and a variety of other internal processes that have been adopted and implemented. Alia was also the Founder & President of Head Up, Inc., a Chicago-based organization, established to assist minority men looking to reorganize and take charge of their lives, families, and financial status. She has also worked as the Director of Programming for Sisters Working It Out (SWIO), a nonprofit created to address healthcare disparities in underserved communities with a primary focus on breast cancer care and community advocacy. Alia has committed a large portion of her career tenure to the nonprofit sector, spending almost fifteen years at the American Bar Association (ABA). The ABA is one of the largest legal non-profit organizations in the country. Alia believes in making her philanthropic footstep in the areas of public services. She has volunteered as a choreographer, project manager, and mentor in community youth service groups like Chicago Cares, Freedom Hillside Youth Ministries, The Children’s Place, New Moms, and other charitable organizations.
