Svp Of Software Engineering
ZeroFOX is the leader in External Cybersecurity, having built a scalable platform for detecting threats and disrupting attackers before they disrupt your business. I am super proud of the team and platform we have built:* Grew the team 10X into a solid Engineering, DevOps, and AI team of ~150 across 3 continents. Built a very strong “Teamwork on a Mission” culture resulting in very high retention, motivation, and referral rates.* Grew ARR 20X to ~$200M by building a platform that continues to scale and satisfy customers, and enabled us to go public in August 2022.* Outpaced the competition by building new capabilities faster, with fewer people, and innovating in the efficient usage of AI for 8 years.* Stayed under budget and improved efficiency year after year after year.* Acquired and fully merged in 4 other cybersecurity companies.

Startup Mentor
Sr. Director Of Software Engineering
Led a global team of 200+ Engineers building Security Analytics, the leading tool for detecting and investigating advanced security threats in use by nearly a thousand large institutions worldwide. Our technology ingests all network packets at up to 10G speeds and stream the relevant metadata to our real-time rules engine to detect possible threats in seconds. Thus alerted to an attack, users can then pivot, filter, and analyze all relevant data to determine the extent of the threat and take the appropriate action. Technologies involved: C++, J2EE, Ember.js, MongoDB, Esper (complex event processing), RabbitMQ, R (data science), MapR.Also leading the Agile transformation of this group (ASOC) and chairing the RSA Agile Guild, accelerating the transformation of the entire global RSA engineering organization to Agile.
Vp Of Software Engineering, Usher Mobile Identity
Led a global team of 200+ Engineers (3 locations) in building the MicroStrategy Mobile Identity Platform (Usher). Usher is an innovative, mobile-phone based, highly secure and highly usable approach to Digital Identity. Usher solves 3 problems:1. Passwords are weak (easily hacked) and most alternatives are too painful to use and administer.2. A physical piece of plastic or paper is an insecure and slow way to prove identity.3. Plastic cards and fob's are insecure and cumbersome ways to open physical doors.Since joining, I helped grow the team 4X and transformed it into a set of agile teams that release and deploy our entire product stack (web, server, mobile) into production (SaaS) and app stores (Apple & Google) every single week.In addition, I directed and oversaw the design of the entire software platform, which relies on encryption & PKI for data security, J2EE & memcache for performance, clustering for high availability, and shared C++ libraries on iOS & Android to reduce platform-specific double-implementation. In addition, we implemented uniquely innovative, high speed, high concurrency BLE (Bluetooth) capabilities on iOS and OSX and even Android to maximize usability without compromising security. In the process, I have become well-versed in software security across mobile, web, API's, and client-server communication.
Vp, Software Development
Our challenge was to build a platform for building truly useful business software, which we met by inventing a purely web-based, high level platform for non-techies to not only build and deploy business software for thousands of users, but to also enable them to continuously evolve the software as the business needs changed, all without a single line of code!I joined Appian as head of Technology right when it started its transition from a Services to a Product company, and was instrumental in the design of the architecture and nearly every feature of the product, which included real-time, in-memory analytics (before practically anyone else), dynamic user interfaces that are designed but not coded and work automatically in both web and native mobile apps (iOS, Android, Blackberry), and a highly available, highly scalable, high-throughput architecture that serves millions of users per day. We extended BPM to include rich, dynamic, user-defined data structures, as well as social capabilities. We delivered the platform in both SaaS and on-premise configurations, allowing customers to easily migrate between the two as needed.During my tenure, I helped grow the team to 50+ technologists + dozens of contractors. At the same time, we transformed the organization into an agile (scrum), continuous integration, cloud-based, automatic build-and-deploy environment with our code in github, and automated tests running in AWS. We used a wide range of technologies including Java, Kdb (high-performance, highly reliable, in-memory database and programming language), GWT, Lucene/Solr, REST api's, AWS.
Director Of Web Engineering
While at MicroStrategy, I pioneered web-based business intelligence by building the very first browser-based BI/Analytics tool in 1996. I grew & led my teams in building the most innovative and powerful, browser-based reporting interfaces in the world, and was recognized by the USPTO with 4 patents. Before this, when I first started as a Software Engineer, I co-designed and implemented our world-beating, highly sophisticated SQL-generating engine which was at the core of MicroStrategy's competitive advantage for years. We primarily used Microsoft technologies, including Visual Basic, .NET, IIS, VBScript, VC++, COM, ActiveX, while also incorporating Javascript, J2EE, Java applets, and JNI.
