The SRSSP Additional Finance is built on the success and strong impact of the previous phase by expanding the geographical coverage to Menoufia, Gharbia, and Damitta governorates. The program aims to extend access to sanitation services to 178.317 household connections and is co-funded equally by the World Bank and The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank through a 600 million USD loan to the Government of Egypt. The rationale of the project is to improve living conditions in informal areas through an integrated and participatory urban development approach. The project will implement a series of medium scale infrastructure improvements and cooperate with civil society on initiatives that enhance the quality of life in informal areas. Special attention will be paid to capacity development on all levels of governance, in order to mainstream participatory methods and tools developed in the preceding Participatory Development Programme in Urban Areas (PDP). The implementation of further infrastructure enhancement activities will enable all involved stakeholders to adapt to a coherent approach to urban upgrading.
