About Ali Bakir

Dr. Ali BAKIR is a research assistant professor in Ibn Khaldon Center for Humanities and Social Sciences at Qatar University. He is also a nonresident Senior Fellow with the "Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative" - Middle East programs at the Washington-based Atlantic Council. As a senior foreign policy and security analyst and consultant, Bakir has more than 15 years of professional experience working with senior officials, decision-makers, and stakeholders for governmental, non-governmental, and private sector institutions in countries across the MENA region.Prior to joining academia, Bakir worked as senior political advisor for Qatar's embassy in Ankara-Turkey. He also worked as the head of the Gulf program and a senior researcher in the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, a senior researcher in the International Strategic Research Organization (ISRO), and as a researcher and editor for AIWA group.Dr. Bakir follows geopolitical and security trends in the Middle East, great power politics, small states behavior, emerging unconventional risks and threats among other topics, with a special focus on Turkey’s foreign and defense policies, Turkey-Arab/Gulf relations, and Gulf security. His research interests include great power politics in the Middle East, small states' behavior, and emerging unconventional risks and threats. Bakir's education, fieldwork, and work experience spans several countries, including Kuwait, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, and Qatar.
He is a distinguished TV commentator in the Arab world and analyst on the foreign policies of Turkey, GCC countries, and Iran.He writes regularly for several Arabic, English, and Turkish platforms.
