Our aim is to make the occupier as safe as possible in their own home by minimising the risk of a fire, we have targets to hit and risk assessments to complete. We also work closely with other agencies by referring people to their organisation if required and generating referrals through them. I also deliver different safety information such as home safety, road safety, water safety, electrical safety and other safety messages to local groups and schools. I attend different events to promote what we do as a service, generate referrals and provide key safety messages. -
Community Education OfficerMid & West Wales Fire And Rescue Service Feb 2018 - Aug 2019NewtownMy role a an education officer was to create and deliver safety lessons such as home, road, water and electrical safety to all the school key stage classes. I travelled all over the county of Powys delivering lessons and activities to schools, community groups and youth initiatives. I worked very closely in the community by also delivering home fire safety checks, making sure people are safe in their home by fitting them equipment and providing them with the appropriate advise to minimise the risk of a fire. I organised talks with local groups of all ages, delivered fire station tours and delivered youth engagement programmes where we worked with challenging young people. I helped run intervention programmes for young people between the ages of 11-25 who have either offended, on the cusp of offending or vulnerable. The programme works on challenging existing attitudes and promotes independent thinking in young people by using fire service activities to develop personal attributes such as working as a team, exploring physical and mental limits and promoting and educating young people about the role of the fire and rescue service. -

Over the period of 8 months I went into schools to promote the tournament by doing coaching sessions and presentations. I organised mini football tournaments for girls all over the country to gain interest in the sport and also the tournament. I was also involved in the design and planning of all merchandise, organising talks, tournaments and coaching sessions. My other goal was to increase participation of football amongst women’s and girls within Wales. I successfully managed to promote the tournament where we got one of the the biggest crowd for a Welsh Women's game. -

After the residential we worked on a community project for a number of weeks to give something back to the community we were in. My team chose to work on a project where we redesigned a room in a rehab centre for people struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. This project gives young people theopportunity to unleash their potential, to build their self-belief and get them prepped for life after school.
