As a part-time venture, I made art and sold my work at a small studio/shop which I manage, at the Preston Artists Market. I now largely undertake specific commissioned work and sell work online or at occasional art exhibitions and markets. My work includes illustrations, digital art, stencil and screenprinted art (onto fabric and cards) photography, ceramic sculptures, needle-felted sculptures, as well as homemade dog toys.Nature is a strong inspiration and influence in much of my work. I have had several pieces of work in group exhibitions and line drawing illustrations included in publications.

As professional ecological consultant, I have undertaken a range of projects of varying complexity. Through this work I have developed extensive skills and knowledge, particularly of flora and fauna, policy and legislation, and in bushfire risk assessment, and project management. Projects I have been involved in and/or managed include: flora and fauna assessments for clients ranging from private individuals keen to build their own home on a bush block, developers keen to ensure that their obligations are met, local Councils for identifying ecological values and management issues for bushland reserves, and the State Government for large-scale, State-wide vegetation quality assessment and bushfire fuel load assessments – for example. In this work, I have developed a strong understanding of clear and effective communication: liaising with clients, stakeholders and referral authorities, as well as writing comprehensive, yet concise reports, and on occasion making presentations and attending panelled meetings to discuss project outcomes and recommendations.

Subtropical Central Coast, Queensland, Australia

I undertook, on occasion, week-long stints at a time doing shorebird surveys off the coast of Qld (focusing mostly on migratory, boreal-breeding shorebird species that spend their non-breeding season in Australia). Surveys involved working with a small team visiting key locations via boat and on foot, often traversing mudflats in subtropical summer conditions. The fluent use of binoculars and spotting scopes along with a thorough familiarity with shorebird species ID was a given.

As a dog trainer I assisted with dog and their people through life skills and training classes. My approach is through the use of force-free, positive reinforcement methods. I now continue to do this via private consultations by appointment, as my own business.

I volunteered, along with my dog, Juno, at the Conservation Ecology Centre for 4 years. We had undergone intensive training to become a fully ‘quollified’ Tiger Quoll scat detection dog team. I drove to the central Otways at least 1-2 times a month to train and also undertake surveys in a range of areas, including Kinglake National Park, the Great Otways National Park etc., along with a few other team mates who also volunteer with their dogs. This has involved many hundreds of hours; training at home and in the Otways, driving time to and from Cape Otway, and undertaking surveys.I just loved being able to tie-in my love for conservation along with my love of engaging with my dog. I seek to continue this in any way I can.
