Learning Commons Facilitator
Current- Run all aspects of the learning commons (organizing, weeding, material repair, etc.)- Delivered 630+ hours of storytelling for kids from Kindergarten to Grade 5 to date- Proposed, organized, and facilitated two virtual author visits (with Gail Carson Levine and Chris Grabenstein)- Prepared and ran two Scholastic Book Fairs- Catalogued 1,500+ new books (both new material and backlog of past years) to date- Organized and ran a “Battle of the Books” competition for the Grade 4s and 5s- Proposed a library volunteer student program, selected and trained volunteers, and supervise their work- Based on a list of desired topics provided by the principal, researched and compiled a budgeted list of hundreds of new books to be purchased using a large government grant for new home reading material.- Introduced the use of shelf markers for student use to help with library organization; trained students on the new book-searching routine.- Create personalized lists of book suggestions for weaker readers.- Research and design curriculum-related posters to support teachers (upon request).- Purchase new material for library collections based on curriculum needs and student interests- Assist students, teachers, and support staff to locate library resources
