Dr. Alice Jacobs is involved on a global basis with technologists, startups, major companies, governments, academic institutions and investors. She leads the Convergence Group. The Group’s work on improving access to and delivery of healthcare through AI-led digital acceleration.Dr. Jacobs has long focused on the intersection of science, healthcare, and business. While still an undergraduate at Stanford, Dr. Jacobs published her first peer-reviewed article (in developmental neurobiology). Soon after, as a student at Harvard Medical School, she founded her first company, IntelligentMDx after losing a patient from a staph infection. Her mission was to create new methods for the rapid and precise detection of infections including the development of software to identify genetic drift in highly mutating pathogens. The company designed and manufactured test kits – including 9 cleared by the FDA and 30 other regulatory authorities globally – deployed on 5 continents. In so doing she helped make PCR part of routine clinical testing.Since exiting IntelligentMDx, she has worked with leading venture funds including Third Rock Ventures/MIT/Bob Langer, GE Ventures, GreyBird Ventures. In this role, she helps companies commercialize life-changing technologies in healthcare and beyond.She spent two years as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Caltech, guiding Nobel Laureates, National Academy members and pioneering data scientists in their efforts to build the next generation of deep technology solutions. This work led Dr. Jacobs to the realization that expanding access to healthcare and improving outcomes called for more than breakthroughs in the lab. Specifically, she recognized the need for breakthroughs in harnessing the power of real world data and human connection.Dr. Jacobs founded Convergence Group to meet this challenge, developing and implementing methodologies to accelerate the transformation and optimization of data infrastructure at leading companies. Dr. Jacobs holds multiple patents in personalized medicine and rapid diagnostic testing. She has been recognized by Scientific American as one of the top 50 innovators in science and technology and selected by the World Economic Forum as a member of the Young Global Leaders. She holds a BA in Art History as well as a BS in Biological Sciences from Stanford with Honors in Developmental Neurobiology, and an MD from Harvard Medical School.
