    The focus of my PhD was to investigate the brain circuits involved in memory formation.Set up a new two-photon imaging system in the lab. Used code to build experiments and collect and store data efficiently (cron, bash, MATLAB, Python, Git). Built an efficient, modular, well-documented, automated reproducible analytic pipeline (RAP) to: ingest raw imaging timeseries data, pre-process/ de-noise the data, perform various statistical analyses (e.g. fitting statistical models such as GLMs to model neuronal firing), generate summary figures and statistics. Trained a new postdoc in how to analyse this novel data. Held regular meetings, code demos, discussions. This training allowed my colleague transition from inexperienced to competent in these techniques. Presented my findings to experts at international conferences/ to non-experts. Contributed to external open-source Github repositories

    Worked at a start-up providing a free knowledge-sharing service to farmers in rural Africa. Designed a project to evaluate deep-learning approaches to classifying SMS text data (Natural Language Processing).Wrote object-oriented python code, building classes to ingest data, train, and evaluate models. Built tests to check for data-leakage between training, validation and test sets. Used this modular pipeline to efficiently train and compare several network architectures (CNNs, LSTMs, RNNs, using Keras). Decided on appropriate learning metrics, stratification of input data, performance criteria. Researched options for increasing the explainability of trained models (using model-agnostic transparency tool, LIME). Communicated findings to fellow data scientists. Also presented results and potential impact of the project to non-experts in whole-team meetings. Received excellent feedback for clear communication of findings.
