Alice’s work lies at the intersection of technology, interaction design, and material research. She is interested in how people experience soft materials, focusing (though not exclusively) on textiles. She applies her knowledge to support designers in crafting richer and more meaningful experiences with their products.🛠️ With a background in industrial design engineering, she entered the textile world from a materials perspective. She applied her technical expertise in collaborations with sportswear brands and a professional cycling team on cutting-edge manufacturing techniques (such as customised 3D printing and multi-layer weaving) to enhance athletes’ performance and comfort. She has led diverse projects in multidisciplinary teams with research scientists and textile and fashion designers. Her projects have spanned a wide range of products, from high-performance sportswear to shape-changing textiles. She gained first-hand experience (3+ years) in designing and producing animated woven textiles, from small-batch to industrial scale.🚀 Her mission is to apply knowledge of emerging materials and novel textile production methods to improve the experience of textile products and challenge the textile industry's negative impact on our planet's future.💫 Currently, she is finalising her PhD research on Animated Textiles in the Materials Experience Lab at the Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. Her work is disseminated through talks and publications, mainly within the design and Human-Computer Interaction communities, as well as through workshops and teaching activities worldwide.
