Co-led research and writing for a context paper on ‘Volunteerism and Community Resilience: Locally Owned Solutions Delivering Impact’. Presented paper at the opening session of IAVE's 2020 Virtual Global Forum Series.

As part of my ESRC funding I carried out a professional placement with VSO supporting their Knowledge for Impact team. I led on the research design for a project looking at the role of community-based volunteers in VSO’s programming.I created a literature review and position paper on community volunteering supported by an evidence-based case study on the role of community volunteers in livelihood projects in Cambodia.I initiated and led a rapid research project to assess the experiences of young volunteers responding to COVID-19 in the Philippines, Kenya and sierra Leone. This involved participatory online data collection through social media groups. I presented research findings in webinars including with FORUM and VSO staff and partners.

I used quantitative and qualitative analytic approaches to evaluate the data emerging from VSO's International Citizen Service (ICS) placements across the world, to create a list of recommendations for agency learning and future programming.

I reviewed, analysed and reported on impact evaluation datasets collected for the DFID funded Samarth-Nepal New Market Development Programme in Nepal across three projects: dairy, pig and ginger farming.I developed a qualitative coding framework, through the analysis of datasets of interviews, focus groups, and a review of project documents to understand the impact of interventions on the broader lives of intended beneficiaries with an emphasis on women’s empowerment. I synthesised the key ‘stories of change’ from the data alongside additional findings to create an evaluation report including visualisations and graphics for the client.

I designed and delivered a participatory qualitative research study (We’re Talking Periods) investigating the impact and sustainability of One Girl Australia’s (OGA) LaunchPad project amongst community groups, which was used for programmatic learning and external communications. I designed context-relevant data collection tools, focus group guide and depth interview guide.I trained and supported a team of 4 staff during data collection in 5 communities (urban and rural).I designed and facilitated a co-productive qualitative analysis workshop to analyse the data and develop findings.I designed data collection tools, including interview and focus group guides, for the endline evaluation for the ‘Bold Response to Teenage Pregnancy’ project funded by Grand Challenges Canada and delivered by IsraAid in Sierra Leone.I analysed the quantitative and qualitative data that was collected across all points of the over-time evaluation to create a final report for IsraAid to share with the donor.

I was a team leader on the DFID funded International Citizen Service youth volunteering programme.I managed a diverse team of twelve 18-25 year old Kenyan and UK volunteers, providing professional and pastoral support. This involved carrying out supervisions, managing conflict and providing feedback and support with volunteers’ project ideas. I built relationships with local partners to support our volunteers’ projects and facilitate community assimilation.I designed and delivered the baseline research for the programme, as this is the first time it was running in this area. This involved questionnaire design, data collection via guided interviews and questionnaires, and analysis and evaluation of findings.I provided comprehensive monitoring and evaluation support to the head office, by recording volunteers’ activities and writing reports to outline progress in-line with the project plan. I designed and delivered training sessions to youth volunteers, project partners and community members.

I project managed complex consulting projects for large public sector clients. I researched, designed and delivered crowdsourcing campaigns to engage large groups of people to gather insight and generate solutions to strategic challenges.I led Clever Together’s work with NHS England (London) around the transformation of community services. The Transformldn project brought together a network of 1,000+ patients and health and care staff to co-create a vision of what excellent community services look like. I supported the design and delivery of the Change Challenge in partnership with Health Services Journal, Nursing Times and NHSIQ. This project brought together 3,500+ people, from 45 different countries. They shared 13,895 contributions around creating bottom-up change, the analysis of which was distilled into 10 barriers, 11 building blocks and 16 solutions.
