Ormen Langes Offisin (OLO) is a nonprofit arts and design studio collective and coworking space in Trondheim. In addition to renting a studio/office space for my own creative work (since September 2020), I have also taught, coordinated, and assisted with workshops and events that have been held at the studio or elsewhere in our community.In August 2021 OLO invited me to join its board/steering committee. In general I assist the studio, its members, and the steering committee in any way I can, both in its daily operations and in meeting its longer-term organizational goals.

I founded Kayakay Study Abroad in order to develop university-level, field-based study abroad programs to Taiwan. The motivation was to offer educational experiences that combine field-based training with personally enriching cultural immersion in one of East Asia’s richest and most dynamic geological, ecological, cultural, and political crossroads.I ended this endeavor for personal reasons that culminated in my international move to Denmark. However, the 3-10 week long field programs that were in development include: geology, ecology/environmental science, culture and anthropology, and fine art/field drawing. Taiwan

I planned and managed the itinerary, logistics, and budget of the University of Connecticut Geology and Geologic Hazards in Taiwan Field Course. I also:• Facilitated exchange between Taiwanese and American students, faculty, and staff• Acted as a cultural guide, Mandarin-English translator, and interpreter• Co-authored the 90-page field guide book for the program and co-instructed the course along with professors Tim Byrne (University of Connecticut), William Ouimet (University of Connecticut), and guest instructor Graham Hagen-Peter (Geological Survey of Norway)

In this temporary role, I planned and coordinated a series of eight professional development webinars for faculty members interested in teaching about sustainability with an interdisciplinary approach.One goal of the webinar series was to promote earth science teaching resources from InTeGrate (Interdisciplinary Teaching about Earth for a Sustainable Future), a project funded by the US National Science Foundation to help science teachers and professors teach about the earth in the context of societal issues. Webinar topics included...Environmental Justice, Teaching with Data, Improving Climate Literacy, Teaching about Soils as a Critical Resource, Working with Diverse Students, and more.Achievements:• Coordinated a total of 23 presenters and engaged 465 community members (including 268 webinar participants) in a four-month timespan• Presented webinar series summary, statistics, and demographics to the InTeGrate project leadership team• Created a 30-page manual for planning and running future webinar seriesIn this role, I also: • Piloted virtual discussion groups for faculty members• Coordinated a webinar focused on teaching with MATLAB, called “Developing Quantitative Skills Using Geoscience Data with MATLAB”• Analyzed website analytics for the On The Cutting Edge project to help us understand how program participants use the site

I was hired as a Hydrologic Science Technician under a short-term appointment to provide laboratory and fieldwork support for the ongoing hydrothermal monitoring project of the Cascade Range volcanoes. A key part of my role was to compile and reorganize the project's historical and current database to prepare it for dissemination among fellow scientists and the public.Achievements: • Compiled, updated, and reorganized past and present water and gas chemistry data of 25 volcano hazard sites throughout the Pacific Northwest Cascade Range• Contributed to the creation of a multi-year baseline dataset for the National Volcano Early Warning System's (NVEWS) 10 most-threatening Cascade Range volcanoes• Coordinated logistics and fieldwork/sampling gear for two 10-day field trips to Northern California, Oregon, and Washington• Collected gas and water samples from streams, springs, and fumaroles (volcanic vents), and deployed and retrieved on-site instruments• Promoted from Hydrologic Science Technician to Geologist position

This entailed drafting and administering student and faculty questionnaires, summarizing our findings, and presenting our proposed plans for improvement to the director of the center

At this language immersion summer camp, I designed teaching curricula for beginning- and intermediate-level students, and taught Mandarin Chinese to students ranging from eight to 17 years old. I also created evening programs for the students and planned daily cultural presentations, all in Mandarin.I also planned and co-supervised the performance and activities schedule for ~150 Chinese village campers during the International Day festival, which included students from the Spanish, French, Norwegian, and Japanese language camps.
