Mixed animal vet working with small and farm animals

I was one of a team of mentors looking after a group of international students attending a veterinary based summer school. As the students were minors we were tasked with 24 hour care, ensuring everyone was safe, as well as having an amazing time!

Whilst undertaking this role, I was responsible for showing prospective students and their parents around the university site, answering any questions that they might have about the courses or general student life. If I was unsure of the answer I made sure that I pointed them in the right direction towards someone that would be able to help. We were asked to write a few words about your time at university and mine was selected to be printed in the brochures that were sent out to prospective students.

During this summer job between university terms, I was tasked with walking and feeding the dogs, and cleaning the kennels and paddocks. When owners arrived to collect their pets, I was responsible for making sure that the dog was clean, and had all of its belongings with them. With any dogs of medications, I was tasked with ensuring that they got the correct medication at the right time necessary.

I worked with the head coach to arrange coaching sessions for a number of different county hockey teams. I was mainly tasked with managing the 40 Under 13 girls and around 30 Under 15 boys, although I helped out with other teams on occasion. When tournaments arose, I was in charge of player management, as well as ensure player safety. After the season was over, I sat down with committees and discussed who I thought should move on to the next stage in the England Hockey Ladder.
