My identity as a social worker has been shaped by my Certificate III in individual support (aged, disability, home and community care) and Master degree in social work in Australia and Bachelor of Department of leisure, recreation, and tourism management in Taiwan. This combination has provided me with a unique understanding of respect for persons, social justice, and professional integrity, specifically with person-centred practise, respect for human dignity and decision making. Passionate areas are regarding my cultural background (Taiwan), previous work experience as an assistant in nursing in an aged care facility, a community support worker in aged/disability care, placements in Suncoast Community Legal Service (SCLS) and Varsity Lakes Community Resource Centre (VLCRC), and my volunteer experience with Multicultural Families Organisation (MFO) as a primary/secondary school homework mentor in supporting children from non- English speaking cultural background and volunteer in various events. My practice aims from the person-centred approach, solution-focus and evidence-based practice, by using social work skills to navigate clients’ concerns. The skills I use that established my framework of practice, that are listening and respect, equity communication, critical thinking, objective and non-judgemental. I hold the belief that social workers are charged as an important role to play in society, that of utilizing the social imagination’s perspective to objectively analyses the power dynamic in society, developing social issues awareness in the community, and think critically to resolve social issues.Lifelong learning is also a core value to me and I am open up to learning and growing in various fields such as Disability, Aged care, Domestic Violence, Mental Health, Youth work, Family and children relationships and so on.
